ABOUT THE HIPPY PROGRAM

HIPPY is a structured, home-based model focused on parent-child centered learning designed to remove barriers and to reach low income families with limited education to become their child's first teacher. Through HIPPY, parents not only become actively involved in the lives of their children, but they also assist their children to reach their full potential as they prepare to enter school.

As a School Readiness Parent Educator you will supply weekly HIPPY activity packets and follow the program method of instruction with the parent or caregiver that is designed to strengthen their children's cognitive skills, early literacy skills, social/emotional and physical development.

The School Readiness Parent Educator also provides a broad range of services including recruiting families with 2, 3 and 4-year-old children, developing and maintaining linkages with various community resources, and is a role model and advocate for families and children.

Skills/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, and one (1) year of experience working with children and families required. Being actively enrolled or having completed a HIPPY program may substitute for six (6) months of experience.

  • Must be computer literate and have the ability to complete documents in Microsoft Office Word and Adobe Reader.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, time management and case management skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed in order to meet the needs of the children and families served.
  • Must have transportation and be willing to visit clients in their homes. Valid Permanent Florida Driver's License with full access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage (proof of insurance is required).
