Through our educational and family support programs, we are able to engage and support families, childcare providers and key stakeholders to guild individual and community capacity to nurture a child's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Our Miami-Dade Office has an opening for a full-time Family Consultant to provide intensive, short-term in-home services to assist vulnerable families.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria: 

Masters' degree in Social Work, Mental Health or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of two years experience working with children and families in a counseling, supportive and/or case management role.  Florida licensure/license eligible is preferred.  Ability to provide short term, stabilization services to families in their home. Previous experience with home visits, knowledge of community resources and human services systems is required; experience with child welfare systems is preferred. Minimum one year experience working with children and families in a counseling, supporting and/or case management role. Strong organizational skills and flexibility; Ability to meet established deadlines; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends is required. Bilingual: English/Spanish is a plus; Must possess a valid driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance. Position requires daily driving in order to meet the needs of our clients.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide short term, in-home services aimed at stabilizing the family.  This includes but not inclusive of: Teaching problem solving skills, parenting skills, behavior strategies, budgeting, community resources, etc..
  • Complete a family assessment in conjunction with the family and the Family Consultant to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the family unit.
  • Maintain a detailed file on each client to include referral/intake documentation, assessment, service plan, on-call procedures, case log, etc., and other pertinent information related to each case.
  • Complete case notes and weekly progress reports on each family and submits to supervisor for review and signature in a timely manner.
  • Makes 2-3 face to face home visits per week to each assigned family during intervention with the family; observes  and interviews children at the home at the time of each visit.
  • Responsible for responding to referral within the agreed upon timeframe.
  • Responsible and accountable for attendance at department meetings, multidisciplinary staffing, supervision meetings, and audit preparation meetings.
  • Provide 24 hour emergency on-call assistance for assigned families as needed.
  • Refer any case that may involves suspected or known child abuse to the child abuse hotline.
  • Attend court hearings and exercises discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance to the family and provide any other additional reasonable services for prevention of maltreatment and unnecessary foster care as needed in order to strengthen a family at risk.
  • Perform other duties that may be necessary to maintain the success of the organization and as needed and/or requested to support and maintain accreditation standards and continuous quality improvement of the organization.
